Townhall.com::Anglican Agonies::By Bill Murchison

This tendency to make our problem in Anglicana a gay problem is exacerbated by the press, of course. Can we try to look at the problem differently. Is my sexual problem amenable to "it's just the way God made me" treatment. Can I indulge myself because "that's the way I am?"

There is only one kind of man!

Our early service organist and I were sitting in the Commons where others were discussing something that I half heard. One of the persons mentioned "gay man", to which Brandon replied, sotto voce to me, "there's only one kind of man."

He's right, of course. We are always enmeshed in the homosexuality issue as if it were primary, but it is secondary. I believe it to be a fact that nearly all men struggle with sexuality issues. They may be tempted with adultery, pornography, garden variety lust aimed at any passing fanny, masturbation, or same sex attraction. There are, however, two kinds of responses to their struggle. One is to fight on, the other is to resort to "it's just the way I am" and give in to their temptation. The first is just a man. The second is an unrepentant sinner who has embraced the urge that he had hitherto fought.

Am I correct? Does this ring true? Or, is there a special status granted to those who decide to yeild to temptation. If so, what is the criteria that allows acceptance of failure? Is it available to all who are tempted or only to those who are gay?

As Frazier Crane used to say, and still says in reruns, "I'm listening".
