ADL

Abe Foxman, the National President of the Anti-Defamation League, has decided that Jews have an insidious enemy … evangelical Christians. According to Mr. Foxman, evangelical Christians are attempting to change the country into one which will be hostile to Jews and any other minority. The Boulder President of the ADL agrees. When I complained, he said that my form of freedom of religion was intolerant of others. In his view, my brand of Christianity insists that there is only ONE set of beliefs that is “true” and that all others are not. Well, duh.

I guess there are Christians that think everybody else’s religion is true, too. I think they might even be serious about this. I’m also certain that this is a position of the unintelligent and the uninformed. It is post-modern nonsense. “True for me, but not for you” is their mantra. It is delivered from a position of righteous indignation that anyone would be brazen enough to have a different view; those who defer from this tenet are “intolerant” bozos. Tragically, their argument, since it is not logical, is irrefutable.

So, I am a bozo. Guilty as defined. I actually believe the tenets of my faith, I believe that the bible is the revealed word of God, I believe that Jesus Christ, together with the Holy Spirit and Our Almighty father, is a mystical triune Godhead, prophesied in the Hebrew bible and fully realized in His birth in Bethlehem. I believe that He recruited a dynamite men’s team who died for him and that He died for them first to show them how much He loved them and as a propitiation of their and our sins. I used to believe because I had tried the alternatives. I used to believe because I had read and understood the scriptures. I believe now because any other worldview seems shallow. And, I know that my belief is a blessing of God’s grace and mercy; I get no credit. My “choice” is considered by many to be much inferior to “inclusive” Christianity, which, as far as I can tell, has gone beyond accepting the sinner and now tolerates the sin. I will be tolerated by my progressive critics because, in their view, they exceed me in tolerance. I will be “tolerated” by them. Ostracized, tolerantly. The ADL now officially tolerates only progressive Christians. Unfortunately for them, these Christians are the ones whose churches are shrinking and whose children choose not to attend church when they grow up. Maybe a future ADL membership will be reminded by a leader, if they can find one whose education included American history and Christian apologetics, that Christians of traditional ilk have always been the advocates of freedom for all in America, because that is the command of their Lord and Savior, a devout, orthodox Jew.
